Rainfall in Argentina last week favored eastern and southeastern regions with the remainder of the country staying mostly dry with above normal temperatures. The forecast for this week is calling for improved chances of rainfall especially in central and northern Argentina accompanied by lower temperatures.
Farmers in Argentina had planted 13.7% of their 2024/25 corn as of late last week which represented an advance of 3.2% for the week. Planting is more advanced in central Entre Rios where 65% of the corn has been planted. In the core production areas, farmers have planted 40-50% of their intended corn acreage.
The 2024/25 Argentina corn acreage is estimated at 6.0 million hectares (14.8 million acres), which is down 1.0 million hectares or approximately 15%. The corn acreage is highly uncertain and it could be influenced by October rainfall - a dry October could result in a smaller corn acreage than anticipated, whereas a wetter October, could result in a larger corn acreage than anticipated.,
The 2024/25 Argentina corn production is estimated at 48.0 million tons, but that is highly speculative at this point. The eventual production will be impacted by the acreage, the weather, and the level of corn leafhopper infestation.
