Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
Rainfall has picked up in southern Paraguay over the last several weeks and there is more rain in the forecast. Soybean planting is progressing in southern Paraguay, but dry weather is delaying planting in northern Paraguay. According to the vice-president of the Soybean, Oilseed and Grain Producers Association of Paraguay (APS), soybean planting in southern Paragua is 50%, whereas in northern Paraguay, it is only 20%. Planting in northern Paraguay is running 10 to 15 days behind average.
The soybean planting in Paraguay is timely and the crop should be able to achieve its normal yield potential if the weather cooperates for the rest of the growing season. There should also be ample time to plant a second crop of soybeans or corn within the ideal planting window.
